The day was dieing and and the blood red sky was a clear sign of the daylight's mortal wounds. As the Sky became darker and the air cooled a herd of deer, 13 strong, 2 bucks 11 does and 5 of them merely fawns. Non where injured all where healthy in fact it was the largest, and heard in the forest.
Because they where the biggest and the strongest they inevitably took away from the other herds and where strong enough to keep away from all their normal predators. This was a problem in the balance of the forces of nature. However, Nature has a strange way of finding away out of its own short comings.
Stirring from his mountain home Bloodwing looked down at the forest down below his volcanic home. He was in his natural draconic form and he was lord of his territory. NONE match his power. He was proud and strong and The forest below as well as the cave and this mountain where all his. as where the animals within. They lived or died when he decreed it.
Contrary to what many may believe the dragon didn't slaughter everything without reason. He knew the value of allowing natural pray to live and flourish. In fact he felt that it gave him more power. He was a king and as such he had to keep his people healthy. And if that meant controlling a population he had no qualms.
he had been watching this particular herds activities as of lat and it was now clear that he would have to intervene else the whole would suffer. The deer had wondered close to the base of the mountain and he chose this time to strike. He leaped from his perch spread his great crimson wings and glided over the trees and banked till he was behind the herd.
He swooped in and landed so stealthily the deer had no idea he was there until a moment later when he let out a thunderous roar. they where so startled that they where stunned a few of their legs gave out and the fainted and the few at the back bolted. They didn't get far. He opened his mouth and out came a blazing yellow tongue of lame that bathed the trees and foliage just in front of the escaping animals in flame. The where halted and tried to scatter but the living dragon fire was too fast.
The others where finally gaining enough composure to get up and run as well but there was no escape from their fate. He bathed them or in his dragon fire. he was careful not to cremate them all on the spot. The fire presented a problem but it was easy to fix. He spread his wings and beat the Dragon fire out of existence. Actually the wind spread the fire, but he made sure to heard the flame toward his mountain home where it quickly ran out of fuel and vanished. He walked across the ruined earth and began gathering the burned bodies into a smaller area.
Now he had been careful not to ruin the bodies so much that their flesh was wasted. And because of this, because he had not used his full might a few of the animals where still breathing. He picked up one of these poor creatures and with the might of his powerful jaws bit the animal in half and swallowed whole the half that had it's head, and released it from its agony.
He was sure not to mark the kill he would share the meat as even for him this was a bit much, and as such he would not attack any scavengers for the time being.
(ooc: got really bored. Any one can join.)
