[OCC: Bloodwing, let's move the encounter to the forest?]
Kael'in grinned. "Pleasure to meet you. Guess that makes me Kael'in Reinhardt..." He preferred not to mention his full name, as occasionally people figured out that he was the basis of the legend of the dragon tamer... That one, like most myths and legends, was one part truth and nine parts creative license. He hoped it hadn't gotten back to Avaren yet, but one never knew...
He almost laughed. It was the typical reaction he got when he told people that he was a treasure hunter... "... A bit of a pain... lots of getting attacked..." and continued with laugh, "I mostly look for magical artifacts from the war, since they have a tendency of biting people where it hurts at the most inopportune times...and since I'm a mage, I can actually do something about them..." He figured that since she was a member of the ruling council, it was safe to tell her a bit about it. He had to admit, that it was probably the least safe of all the things a treasure hunter could specialize in, not that any treasure hunting was safe; but he ended up being attacked by not just regular fighters, but mages as well. It was worth it though... He didn't really think that a mage of the council would try to do him harm. It must have reached them what he and Dar'ian were hunting after all, considering it could endanger Avaren, if allowed into the wrong hands. He of course assumed that the council was competent, but he'd never take that particular fact for granted! He knew it was quite possible that they didn't know about it, but he sure hoped they did. Not that he wanted any help... he and Dar'ian sis just fine! He liked their approach of destroying anything truly harmful. That way it kept it from showing up in the hands of people who were going to misuses it.
He actually felt rather safe here with her. It allowed him to only have to hold minimal protections on his mind, and only truly protect Dar'ian. Not like she was going to be a mugger, or any form of criminal... Hearing she was a teacher and a mage truly interested him. "A mage and teacher? interesting..."He smiled, and decided to see if she'd let him pick her brain. "I've been talked into teaching my old teacher's son... Any advice?" He wasn't even gonna try to ask about the council- no matter how much that might interest him- because he doubted that he'd get much... Actually, he didn't want to find out whether she'd tell him anything, as if she did, he'd be very worried...

He explained what it was like being a treasure hunter and she smiled as he said that it was hard and he got attacked a lot. She wasn't smiling because she was glad that he was attacked, but because she was so excited to hear about it. She nodded her head as he spoke about being a mage and she smiled even more. She told him about her being a mage and a teacher and he told her that he had been talked into teaching his teacher's son and was asking for advice.
"Oh," she started, placing her index finger against her chin as she thought. "I'd say you should start with the fundamentals and work your way up. You can't expect the small boy to learn Inferno on his first day!" she laughed out loud and then took a sip of her beer as she thought for more advice. "Patients. You really got to have an open-mind to teach such an art. Because, as I'm sure you know, it takes a lot of time and a lot of practice to truly master it."

He grinned, as she assumed that his student was still a child. The boy was in reality almost an adult, and more of a assisstant then a student. "Oh, I have plenty of patience, just not when he blows my workroom up..." It was kinda funny when he thought about it now, but not when it actually happened. Then with a laugh he continued "though that isn't the best part... He has a major crush on me, so this is kinda why I'm here and not at home..."
He remembered he'd brought that cube with him here, and it might interest her, being a mage and council member. He wore it on a gold chain as a necklace. He wore it under his tunic though, because it shone and he prefered not be a beacon in the dark...Not to mention, it looked a little weird to wear a shining necklace... Taking it off, he handed it to her "This was the last find. From what I've figured out so far, it was used similarily to a small bomb. Notice the design on it? It's a kind of magical locking mechanism. It took about a month to figure out the combination, and then about a week to get my eyesight back thanks to my stupidity..." He grinned at that, as he'd been stupid enough not to fully sheild when he'd been 'playing' with it. "It let's out an extremely bright light... But we still haven't figured out what it truly is or does, since it doesn't seem to get used up after a use..."

Oh, so the kid had a crush on him? Well... that made things a bit different. She looked over at him and took another sip from her pint. "Well then... I think you need to draw the line and say that this is strictly teaching, not some relationship building class. You have to set boundaries at a professional. Well... in this case, a teacher."
She smiled at him, leaning into the back of the couch relaxing a bit more into it now that she was use to being around this young man. He pulled a necklace off his neck and handed it to her. He began to explain it and she took it in her hands and began to fumble with it. The writings were old, and she knew only one person that could possibly read them. She looked over at him as he told her more about it and how it let out a blinding light and she sort of stopped fiddling it so the light did not emit. "There's only one person I can think of that could read this, but I cannot mention him to many people. Would you mind if I take this to him and show him?"
She knew that he would be hesitant, so she added. "I like at the manor house at the end of the market road. You could stop by in a few days time to retrieve it. But the man is a better secret than exposed."

He grinned at her advice, it was after all quite true. He'd not been that concerned with structuring the relationship with all the other stuff that had been going on. That had probably been a bit of a mistake... Maybe treating the boy as a grown man was a bit of a stretch. It had made him more likely to provide his own opinions to him but it was causing some annoyance at times. "Guess I'll have that talk with him...again..." He could appreciate the comedy of his situation, particularly since he knew quite well he wasn't exactly a good teacher. He was far too laid back, after all and knew it. He was still not all that certain why he was the boy's teacher, since the school had several very good ones. True, their control wasn't as good as his, but that was only because they didn't have to rely on it to survive on a daily basis. Considering the boy wasn't up to that level of study yet, he didn't see why his teacher couldn't be any of them... "Ah, oh well... can't very well let him make me a prisione rin my own home..." He said laughing.
He was very surprised when she identified part of the design as a kind of writing. He'd not made that connection, and he'd spent so mauch time witht he cube... He examined the part she was looking at again, and realized that the writing was meant to appear as part of the design... That was definately a brilliant technique. As much as he had began to trust her, he was uncomfortable with letting the cube out of his sight. It was a weapon, a weapon he'd not disarmed yet... To hand it over to some random person seemed a very foolhardy, yet she was a fellow mage and a council member... She would probably understand the problems with this getting into the wrong person's hands better than most people... "I'm not really comfortable with it being out of my sight... but I can see the reasoning behind not letting random people find out too much... I haven't been able to disarm it yet though, so I'd appreciate if no one 'played' with it..." He said hesitantly, as he handed it to her again. "I live in the house with the tower near the eastern gates. I might have to leave for about a week, so if I don't come by in a few days, can you leave it with a friend of mine? Ask for Dar'ian Flamewind, and have him show you his tigerseye. It should connect with this one if they match. Don't leave it with anyone else though..." he said, handing her his tigerseye. It was broken, but in such a way that it would combine into a unbroken one if joined with the one Dar'ian had. "He'll be at the house."

Tiy was getting a little tired, but she wasn't going to just stop the conversation here. She was enjoying herself too much and her new found friend. She smiled bright at him and nodded. "I understand that you don't trust someone you just met, but it will be safe. But tell me... have you heard of the rebels in the kingdom? The ones that are after every mage left? They tried to get me... and that's how I got this." she dropped the strap off her right shoulder and showed a large gouge in her arm which was now scarred over. "They seem to be in every place all the time, so just be careful with who you mention that you're a mage too. They don't care if you are a powerful one or not, they'll attack." she said to him.
It was strange how comfortable around him she all ready felt. Maybe it was that they both knew magic and that they both were into studying the older magic, but she was not sure. She sighed lightly and smiled over at him, pulling the strap of her dress back over her shoulder. She drained the last bit of her drink and then waved to the tender. "Another round! One for my friend here too if you don't mind!" she called to him. He nodded and began to pull two pints. She looked back at Kael'in and smiled. "The only problem with my friend is that I only see him once in a blue moon... He's... well... he's a very secretive man and I don't even know where he lives." Well... she had an idea, but it was not a good idea to go and poke her head in every tomb at the graveyard to find the right one that led to where he lived.
"But..." she looked at it again and then took his tigereye. "I will bring it to your friend if I see him this week."

He was really intrigued by the rebels, now that she mentioned them. He had noticed a rise in the alertness level, for lack of a better word, of the Avaren mages. He'd not really paid much attention to it because he'd been too busy, but it was starting to make sense. The oddity of some of the attacks on him had confused him, but now... "hmm... I was finding it a bit strange that I had more non-mages attack me then mages, it's usually the other way around..." With a wry grin, he said. He figured it was the fighters that were behind this now, as there'd been conflict between he two for as long as hje could remember. When she mentioned she'd been attacked, he didn't really know what to say... He just grinned and joked that she must have been a really strong mage to fend the attacks off, or she had a protector. It was after all a really stupid idea to hunt mages, unless you had the best fighters. A well trained mage was at an advantage unless the attackers knew how to sneak up on the mage. "Ooh! That must of hurt..." He felt a bit sorry for her, a it looked to him that being the council member that was a known mage would likely put her in the front ranks of this battlefield. Nothing like painting a big bullseye on yourself! He was a little surprised that she was warning him about them. He got attack on a rather regular basis as part of his work, after all. Grinning he added, "Oh, don't worry about me... I don't mention I'm a mage to just anyone. And my style is a cross between magic and swordmanship, so... And frankly, I didn't even notice that the attacks on me weren't related to work, I'm that used to it."
When she ordered the another round, he smiled. He was already a little beyond his comfort level for alcohol, thanks to his miscalculation with the cider, but what the heck... Nothing like getting drunk with a pretty lady. Not that he'd hit on her -he hoped- considering the last one he'd gotten serious with had tried to kill him. It didn't mean he'd couldn't be friends with Tiy. He still couldn't bring himself to fully trust her at the moment, but that could also be the fact that he knew he was leaving himself wide open by getting drunk. Still, that was what Dar'ian was for... Dar'ian's encounter with the dragon was over and he'd gone back to dozing.
Kael'in grinned at the fact that she had no idea when she'd see her friend again. "Now if it was anyone but you... I'd be taking back that cube - at knife point." He joked with a grin, since it did sound kinda odd. Comments like that definitely did not people at ease. "No rush... Your friend studies old or magical writings?"

Tiy was rather surprised about how un-alert he was about the news of the rebels. But of course, his job must have been dangerous and he was probably attacked quite often. And he only confirmed that with his next statement. Never the less, she felt like extra precautions had to be taken. She listened to him as he mentioned that it must have hurt and she nodded. "Bastards seemed to have some augmentation on it to burn... it was sore for a while after the attack..."
The pints were brought over and she listened to him as she sipped at her second pint. She heard what he had to say about the block and she laughed lightly. Was he flirting? There seemed to be a subtle hint of it, and she wondered if the second round was a bad idea. But she did not show her concern. She thought about it for a moment longer as he asked about her friend and then she decided that it was just a drink with a new found friend. No harm done.
She nodded. "He's a master at old magic and much more. He has been studying all his life, and I'm sure he will be able to read these writings." she smiled again and then looked down at the cube. She picked it up with one hand and then slipped it into the folds of her cloak and set it aside. She then set the pint down and put the tiger eye on her neck and brushed out her curly blond hair from under the chain that held the pendant. She looked over at him again and picked up her pint, taking another long sip, wondering what would happen tonight.

Kael'in took a sip of his drink and smiled. It was sweet of her to be concerned about his safety, and almost made him feel bad about hiding Dar'ian. Almost, but not quite... One never gave away all their secrets, not even to their closest friends after all, and she was just a new friend.
After a few moments, he realized his slight threat may have sounded a little like he was flirting. The irony was he'd meant it in all seriousness. If it wasn't for who she was and represented, he'd not have accepted such an excuse... He'd be reclaiming his find in any way possible. Ah, oh well. If she ended up taking it as flirting, no harm done. There was no need for her to know just how serious he'd been.
"That sounds fascinating!" Her friend sounded liked the kind of person he'd love to meet. He'd run into many who studied old magic but few masters of it. He also got the feeling that was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to her friend.
A yawn crept through and he realized he'd better get some sleep. He still had a bunch of stuff to do tomorrow. It would probably take the whole day, and he wouldn't have the luxury of sleeping in. "I think I'll go before I do something undignified like fall asleep here" he said with a grin. "It was a pleasure to meet you, maybe we could talk again sometime soon?" He disliked goodbyes but there was no point insulting her by leaving, or simply falling asleep here. It was something he was likely to do, what with all the drinking and the long day... As he got up, Dar'ian -now fully awake- came up with a really interesting idea. He wanted to meet these 'mage-hunters' as he called them. :You want what? bait? I don't want to be bait! Don't we get attacked enough as it is? Kael'in shoot back with a mix of surprise and worry. :Come on, don't you wnat to know why they're hunting mages? And what better way then to lure them to you? Dar'ian attempted to convince him. Kael'in really had to think about this, it was that unusual. Though he shouldn't be surprised, since Dar'ian was completely captivated by human behaviour. Ugh, and just before bed too...
