Shadow smiled as he walked along the dusty road. It was a great day; balmy skies, no clouds, gentle breezes, warm sun, low humidity...
He was dressed plainly, his heavier leather clothes left at home. He was wearing a leather vest reinforced with steel ringlets, and the two exterior pockets each had three small throwing knives sticking out of them. A crimson red cloth keeping his hair into a ponytail matched his loose, cut off pants which ended above his knees. The belt around his waist held a half empty purse, three more throwing knives and his long knife, the magical chordia. on his feet were a simple pair of leather boots, light enough for the warm weather.
Feeling lazy, and not in the mood to lighten other peoples purses, train with his throwing knives, or practice his magics, He decided that it was time to go fishing!
"Come on Chao, We're gonna go fishing!"He said this to the fox-sized creature on his shoulder and turned around, almost crashing into someone who was walking behind him.
The flame orange creature gave Shadow a confused look. But you don't eat fish, idiot. and neither do I. Why the hell are we going fishing?" Knowing he wasn't going to get an answer, Chao shook his head and resumed people watching as Shadow moved about the street and towards the lake.

In about half an hour, the pair reached the shore of the lake, where Chao promptly jumped off of Shadow's shoulders and grew to his normal size , up to shadow's shoulder height. Shaking out his mane and three foot whiskers, Chao layed down next to Shadow who was setting up the fishing hook and line. After a moment of fiddling, Shadow twirled the line around his head and cast it into the lake.
Sighing, Shadow looked around. "Maybe something interesting will happen today, Chao. Maybe..."
A few hours passed, and Shadow hadn't caught anything. Chao had given up laughing at him and was curled into a ball, fast asleep. Shadow looked up into the sky and saw something strange. He roused Chao and pointed at the falling, flaming object hurtling across the sky.
"Uh... Chao... is it just me? or is the sky falling?"
Chao looked up and growled. "for once Shadow.... You're absolutely correct. It's current trajectory has it heading towards the ruins of Aesir... What are you doing?
Chao looked over at Shadow, who was pooling magical energy into his hands. Shadow grinned back at Chao. "I want to bring it over here. It isn't too big, and it's coming from the sky. Maybe it'll fetch a good price in the market!"
Chao shook his head and watched with mild interest as Shadow used his magic to catch the falling object and direct it toward the area where they were. "By the way it feels, i think it is one of those meteor things that the star gazers are always talking about. It's about as big as a curled up fox, and it is going really fast. but i've got it coming this way now..."
Shadow stopped and released his magic, eagerly watching the object. to his dismay, the object disintegrated as it traveled toward him, and the particles burned up before he could catch and preserve one.
"Aww... it looked like it was headed here too... maybe another one will fall over here!" Shadow scanned the sky with an eager expression. His red eyes flashed with frustration after a couple of minutes, as no more of the strange, fiery objects were to be seen in the sky.
Shadow went back to his fishing line to see something curious. the spool was slowly unraveling, being pulled into the lake. Sending a magical investigation down the string, he realized that it was no normal fish. whatever it was, it was pretty big.
So he started to reel it in, his curiosity getting the better of him.
