Post by Lord Muryllis II on Jun 24, 2009 15:31:57 GMT -5
Name: Muryllis II, son of Master Spellweaver Muryllis of Aesir
Age: 27
Hair: Pale
Eyes: Green
Skin: Pale
Height: 5'10"
Body Type: Toned, but not buff. A runner's body more so than a weight lifter's.
Skills in Magic: As an alumnus to his father's school of spellweaving, Lord Muryllis II is proficient with most basic forms of arcane magic. Per his father's request, he is proficient with basic illusioncraft. His focus is in destructive magic, namely the manipulation of arcane-equivalent elements in achieving an explosive end.
Skills in Physical Combat: Having been a man-at-arms in Avaren's military before the war, he is competent with most basic forms in weaponry. He excels with sword and shield tactics, displaying lethal proficiency. Preferring leather and maille to the heavier battle-grade plate armor, his fighting style is quick, and his technique artful.
Skill Classification: Spellblade. Focusing only on combat arts, he has combined melee forms with the destructive power of magic. While outclassed by the most dedicated warriors and scholars of the respective styles, he is by no means outmatched - he nevertheless remains a deadly adversary through skillful blending of his abilities.
Personality: Reserved and calculating. Combat training has made him the quieter, more ominous presence sitting in the corner of a bar, but experience has granted him a stinging tongue in the form of blunt criticism and commentary.
Combat Outfit: Deceptive. While the Spellblade found in myths and legends carries ornate sets of plate mail and armored robes, Muryllis is far more practical - as his trade demands. Aside from a knee-length hauberk of meticulously-crafted chain mail, the majority of his armor is thick, properly fitted leather. He also carries a longsword, a thin stiletto, and a concave kite shield.
Though the entire kit makes him out to be a low-ranking foot soldier and his physical fighting style resembles that of a buckler-wielding assassin, the deviation from tradition invites those who underestimate to unimaginable, unexpected disaster.
Regular Outfit: Muryllis's peacetime, non-ceremonial regalia befits his kinship with the decedents of Aesir; a wizard by nature, he prefers the flowing robe and hooded cloak to the simpler dress seen in Avaren. Given his status and training, of course, he carries a sheathed longsword in place of the traditional staff.
History: Muryllis, like his father, was a native of the late, great floating city of Aesir. He spent his childhood in its towering citadels, trailing behind his father's robes like a shadow as he absorbed the seemingly endless amounts of knowledge that practically made up the city's air. He became a student of the arcane arts, mastering his studies and delightfully dabbling in the secrets of Aesir's spellweavers. It was in his fifteenth year, as his father ascended to the position of Master Spellweaver and poured more and more time into his studies, that the boy decided to go on his own string of adventures.
Several years before the catastrophic destruction of Aesir, the younger Muryllis left the safety of his home to explore the primitive wonders of Avaren. Within days of his arrival there, the boy came to discover that he had come during a particularly active stage in the kingdom's military recruitment. He decided, in a bold bit of daring, to enlist, and so began training to become a formidable army footsoldier - supposedly an expendable position, but he did not mind. To him, all that mattered was the experience.
Over the course of a decade, the Spellweaver successfully maintained a low profile, a necessary skill among his new, superstitious comrades. He also made contact, much to his delight, with several other incognito mages taking on the same challenge - these would eventually ascend to the status of Spellblade alongside him.
In time, the inevitable war between the two great kingdoms broke out. Following his father's disappearance at the beginning of the war, the skilled warrior found himself in an uncomfortable position: his loyalties lay with both worlds, and, with his fellow Spellblades, he would soon find himself in the middle of this impending collision.
Fortunately, it would soon come to be that both cities would be forced to fight together against a new, powerful foe. Muryllis took up sword and spell against this threat, revealing his abilities and true nature to the warriors of Avaren - by this point, however, the war effort against the dark sorcerer's hellspawn overlooked such uncomfortable revelation.
The basic structure of the future Spellblade order formed during the war; carving through hordes of enemies, Muryllis's group spearheaded a counteroffensive that helped the defending forces regain control and retake Avaren. As the magical life puffed out of the enemy, however, the man looked up to see his home, floating high above, come crashing down.
What followed was the establishment of a new magical academy within Avaren, a haven and refuge for those of Aesir. As Commander of his newly-established order, Lord Muryllis set out to create a flourishing new school of learning, as his father did - the elder Muryllis maintained the art of Spellweaving, and so the younger Muryllis would train Spellblades.
